वीरभद्राय नमः · THE WARRIOR’S FLAME

DRUVA BALARE

The Unbroken Flame of Viragase Tradition
Viragase warrior performer

DRUVA BALARE preserves the fierce and ancient Viragase warrior tradition — a ritual where devotion, fire, rhythm and discipline merge into one powerful expression. Passed down through generations, it embodies the raw energy of Veerabhadra.

ABOUT VIRAGASE

Divine Origin

Viragase represents Veerabhadra, the fearsome warrior born from Shiva’s cosmic fire. Every step reenacts the destruction of Daksha’s sacrifice and the restoration of dharma.

Ritual & Rhythm

The beating of war drums (tamte, urumee) accompanies dancers adorned with vermilion, flames and elaborate costumes – each element symbolic of protection and valour.

Living Heritage

Performed during temple festivals (jatres), Navaratri and family vows (harake). Villagers believe the ritual invokes blessings, purifies the land and transmits ancestral courage.

When the fire whirls and the drums thunder, Veerabhadra himself dances among us. The ground remembers.
