DHRUVA BALARE preserves the fierce and ancient Viragase warrior tradition — a ritual where devotion, fire, rhythm and discipline merge into one powerful expression. Passed down through generations, it embodies the raw energy of Veerabhadra.
Viragase represents Veerabhadra, the fearsome warrior born from Shiva’s cosmic fire. Every step reenacts the destruction of Daksha’s sacrifice and the restoration of dharma.
The beating of war drums (tamte, urumee) accompanies dancers adorned with vermilion, flames and elaborate costumes – each element symbolic of protection and valour.
Performed during temple festivals (jatres), Navaratri and family vows (harake). Villagers believe the ritual invokes blessings, purifies the land and transmits ancestral courage.
When the fire whirls and the drums thunder, Veerabhadra himself dances among us. The ground remembers.
